Few
book products are as useful, and receive as much wear and tear,
as cookbooks. The kitchen can be a dangerous place for a book-heat,
liquids and amateur chefs can all put a strain on your cookbook
applications. Be sure your project's cover and binding can withstand
the abuses of the hottest kitchens and sloppiest cooks.
The
Advantage of Mechanical Binding
For
most cookbook applications, mechanical binding styles such as
Wire-O are the ideal choice. Their layflat capabilities allow
books to stay open on a countertop or fold 360 degrees for holding
in one hand. Common cookbook features such as multiple stock sizes
and weights, index tabs and foldouts are easily handled with mechanical
binding. Even moisture- and stain-resistant synthetic stocks are
no problem!

If
the look of adhesive binding is a must for your cookbook application,
super-strong PUR adhesive is the way to go. PUR adhesives are
impervious to temperature extremes and elements such as grease
and oil, and are flexible enough to handle the rigors of the kitchen.
Unlike other binding adhesives, PUR can also handle a variety
of stocks, as well as full-bleed inks and coatings.
Design
tip:
Include
an Easel - Consider incorporating an easel into cookbooks that
will include a hard cover. An easel provides the ultimate in userfriendliness
and can be incorporated into books with either horizontal or vertical
orientation. Easels are typically designed to be die cut, scored
and folded, allowing them to stay flat until activated by the
end user. Be sure to involve us early in the planning process
to be sure your project is designed for the most efficient production
possible.
